Exploring Vancouver: One Happy Cruiser’s Adventure

Discover Vancouver's top attractions through the eyes of a cruiser, from thrilling adventures at Capilano Suspension Bridge to vibrant nights at the Richmond Night Market.

Before setting sail.

Arriving in Vancouver on a cruise, I had just a short time to explore this incredible city. Determined to make the most of it, I crafted a plan to see the best of what Vancouver offers. Here’s my journey through some of the city's top spots.

A Thrilling Start at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

My adventure began with a visit to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. The free shuttle from Canada Place made it easy to reach. As I stepped onto the suspension bridge, the height took my breath away. I walked among the treetops and dared to tackle the Cliffwalk, each step revealing more of Vancouver's stunning rainforest. Live owls and hawks at Raptor’s Ridge added a wild touch to the experience, and the Totem Park offered a glimpse into Indigenous culture. I couldn’t leave without browsing the massive gift shop for some unique souvenirs.

A Taste of Granville Island

Next, I made my way to Granville Island. A short harbour cruise on one of the small passenger ferries brought me to this bustling hub. The public market was alive with fresh foods, artisan shops, and live entertainment. I sampled local treats and admired the craftsmanship in the galleries and studios. The island's vibrant atmosphere was contagious, making it a highlight of my day.

Food & views.

A tasty city.

Indulging in Neapolitan Pizza

Craving some authentic food, I headed to East Broadway for a slice of Neapolitan pizza with a NYC twist. The rustic, crafted quality of the food was incredible. The place had a relaxed vibe, perfect for a leisurely lunch. It was easy to get there using the SkyTrain.

Scenic Views at Prospect Point

I continued my journey to Stanley Park, specifically Prospect Point. The walk along the seawall was invigorating, with views of the outer harbour and the North Shore Mountains. Fresh on the Point served up the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, right beside the breathtaking scenery of Lions Gate Bridge.

Stanley Park’s Natural Wonders

Exploring more of Stanley Park, I visited the Vancouver Aquarium and wandered through the gardens. The park’s expansive beaches and scenic spots provided a serene escape. Whether walking, biking, or taking the #19 bus, Stanley Park is easily accessible and offers a full day of activities.

Adventure on Grouse Mountain

Grouse Mountain was next on my list. A shuttle from downtown took me to this mountain playground. I tried zip-lining and hiked some trails, each offering spectacular views of Vancouver and beyond. The Grizzly Bear Habitat was a unique experience, allowing me to see these majestic creatures up close.

Cruising the Coastline by Boat

To get a different perspective of Vancouver, I rented a boat from Granville Island Boat Rentals. The freedom to explore the coastline at my own pace was exhilarating. I spotted bald eagles and harbour seals, and marvelled at the luxurious waterfront homes.

Around the city.

Evening at Richmond Night Market

As evening fell, I ventured to the Richmond Night Market. The vibrant energy of the market was palpable, with food stalls offering a variety of Asian delicacies. Entertainment and shopping added to the lively atmosphere. It was a short ride on the Canada Line SkyTrain to Bridgeport Station, followed by a brief walk.

Cultural Immersion at UBC Museum of Anthropology

The next morning, I visited the UBC Museum of Anthropology. The museum’s collection of Indigenous art and cultural artifacts was both enlightening and inspiring. The scenic drive to the University of British Columbia was pleasant, and public transit options made it easy to reach.

Virtual Adventure at Flyover Canada

My final stop was Flyover Canada at Canada Place. This virtual tour took me on an awe-inspiring journey over Canada's landscapes and beyond, all from the comfort of my seat. It was a perfect way to end my whirlwind exploration of Vancouver.

My short stay in Vancouver was packed with diverse experiences, each showcasing a different aspect of this beautiful city. From thrilling adventures to cultural immersions, Vancouver proved to be an unforgettable stop on my cruise journey.
